He had none of his facts straight and was ready to just start hacking into Zane with his scalpel without just cause. ENT = Drop out surgical resident with ego issue.
Anyway. Before me and doc had a toe to toe, Zane had a hearing test done.
He has mild hearing loss in both ears, a wicked double ear infection, wax completely blocking his right ear canal, and fluid behind both his ears. Poor little man.
The audiologist asked if he's been fussy lately, and I just laughed. Unfortunately I can't ever tell if he's ill (with no fever) because fussy is his general state. :)
Luckily he's on antibiotics that should knock that infection out in a few days, we'll scrape the wax and get his hearing re-evaluated along with checking that fluid in his ears (GO AWAY). If not he may need tubes to get it all out.
Regarding the sleep test. His tonsils are small. I don't think he needs them out. But, we don't know what his adenoid pad looks like so we'll take a peek with a camera in a few weeks. If it's obstructive, well out it comes. If not, sigh...pray he grows out of his sleep issues?

I think those egocentric doctors only "practice" medicine... they don't know it all, won't listen to anyone else because of the damn egos. It's about the patient. I'd seek another opinion on top of his. You go - Mom's are about 95% right all the time. I know right now is probably overwhelming (to say the least), but this will pass. I promise. Keep you chin up. You have a gigantic support system, use them (us)... Love you Val
In dental school we talk a lot about the naso/oropharynx and, as tonsils go, the medical profession apparently tends to swing from one extreme to the other since nobody really knows what to do with those tissues. For about 5 years they cut and the next 5 years they let 'em hang in there at all costs. Sounds like we're in the "cut" phase? I had tubes in and adenoids out early on. The tonsils didn't go until 3rd or 4th grade, but my ENT said I had enough of those for everyone in the room! Funny thing: I still have breathing issues/habits and I'm trying to train myself to breathe through my nose now that I'm aware of it. Who knows what I do when I sleep, though. Hang in there! I like the new doc/opinion idea.
You're doing all the right things, not surprisingly. Sorry about the problems with the ENT dr. I really find my opinions are varied, depending on the individual dr. Sounds as if you're tangling with one who thinks his patients are all ignorant and "heesh" knows everything. Another ENT physician may be one of the "I have intelligent, knowledgeable clients," kind.
Yes, looking very much forward to a second opinion
