Light on the sauce

What's mom up to?
We're redoing our bathroom at the moment and all I can find are vanity lights I Don't like. Yuck.

What are the kids up to?
Sporting their new haircuts, they dined on chicken fingers and fries at Central Market on a beautiful Sunday evening...
"Ya see I've been a ketchup fan for most of my life, you can put it on anything..."

"...and fries are merely a vehicle escorting ketchup to your mouth."

"I just use my finger!"

First Haircuts and First T-ball

Today we took the babies kids for their first haircuts. It is LONG overdue but we've been putting it off because it's just so hard to let those baby curls go. We went ahead and took them to those fancy kid places (Pigtails & Crewcuts), because it was a special occasion and all that. Zane did great, spent most of his time flirting with his stylist and well Lily, ....was Lily.

Say goodbye to the fro-mullet

Um, dad? is this a ride? Like the kind at the mall where you get the runs after touching them?

I love this picture because it says it all. Lily is horrified, Zane is wondering what the big deal is and the stylist has just realized she drew the short straw and chose the wrong twin.

WHAT THE FRACK IS GOING ON!!! STOP TOUCHING ME!

STOP PATRONIZING ME!!!! HELP!!!!

Hey dad, I got her number!

Zane: I give this place Zane's seal of approval
(Lily: whatever man)

In other news Dad went out and bought Zane a t-ball set. He took this video 15 seconds after he got it out of the box so, as you can see, coach Hawthorne is excited and looking for the left handed million dollar signing bonus from Zane's MLB contract. Dad even corrected me when I showed him how to bat right handed. NO, apparently Zane will be a lefty...
PS: Excuse the wind noise, it was crazy windy today, turn down your speakers

Claire comes to play

We had some visitors today. Claire and Aunt Anne came by the house to play with us all day. Because the weather was so nice we all walked to Parr Park and had a little fun.

Three little monkey's and their swings

Zane and Lily taught Claire their favorite park game of "Stick stuff down the holes"

Thanks to Anne for loaning out her pictures to the blog

Glamourous

A baby girl rummaged through mommy's drawer. Mommy busily keeps getting ready for her impending weekend trip away. But wait, what is that she hears? Silence. Silence is never golden.
Where had baby girl gone? Had she retreated to the secrecy of mommy's closet?

Mean World

While having the twins on their leashes as we walked by the alligators, a woman next to me commented on what a good idea the leashes were. I took it with a big smile because most of the time I just hear criticism for it. I replied, thanks! It helps. She then said, you just can never be too careful, someone could just take one of them at any moment!

I HATE this view of our world. One of the blogs I read is attempting to undo the frivolous fear that the media (ie Nancy Grace) has put into our hearts about child abductions. I do not fear that someone will take one of my children, never have. What I fear is them jumping into the cougar's cage...which they would (to pet the kitty).

Mean World Syndrome

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Redirected from Mean world syndrome)

Mean World Syndrome is a phenomenon where the violence-related content of mass media convinces viewers that the world is more dangerous than it actually is, and prompts a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat.[1] Mean World Syndrome is one of the main conclusions of cultivation theory. The term was coined by George Gerbner, a pioneer researcher on the effects of television on society, when he noted that people who watched a large amount of television tended to think of the world as an intimidating and unforgiving place. [2]

Individuals who watch television infrequently and adolescents who talk to their parents about reality are said to have a more accurate view of the real world than those who do not, and they are able to more accurately assess their vulnerability to violence. They also tend to have a wider variety of beliefs and attitudes.[3]

Spring Break Zoo Day

Today Me, Meredith and Anne went to the Fort Worth Zoo during a rainy spring break day. Fortunately the rain kept most people at bay so we were pretty free in the morning. As the rain stopped the people started pouring in and we took that as our cue to leave at around 2. I think Lily and Claire were excited to see each other, it's been almost 17 months since they saw each other last.

Maryn & Claire : NO boys allowed on the croc!

Claire & Maryn = Cutest cousins ever

Mom, I can not believe you put this backpack on me...Claire & Maryn are going to laugh at me!

Zane takes charge at the phone station
Claire (almost 2.5), Maryn (almost 4), Zane (20 months), little Lily (20 months)

Claire: Daddy? Ya, mommy put a bunny leash on me....

Lily: Mom, did you know frogs call underwater?
Zane: Then maybe I should throw this in the pond and it'll work.

White tigers

Lily, what do tigers say...RRRRRRRRRRRoarrrrrr

By the time I got the car packed and loaded....

Out.

Playing at Parr Park

How much stuff can we stick in these holes?

...and apparently my kids don't like to read the sign that says this set of playground equipment is for 5 years old and older.
PS: Do you notice the poor design of the slide?!? It curves to the right yet they put the right hand side bank higher than the left hand side bank, which actually dips down. Apparently the engineers need another lesson in inertia and centripetal force. Meanwhile, poor Lily almost smacks her face on the right hand lip each time she goes down while almost sliding off the left hand side.

Grapevine Botanical Gardens

Lily has fun...Zane thinks he's going to be sick.

NO!!! It's THIS way!

Come on Lily...ketchup

Dad's not looking, so, Zane wastes no time jumping into a compost pile (sigh)

Ugh, gross...I need a bath.

Can't stop staring at water....

That water is moving!

FISHIES!!!!

Zane never gets to play

Making pancakes is a Daddy & Lily thing on Sundays.

Reminder

Remember Auction for the hat starts today. Click Register at the top LEFT of the page and then Bid away!

Zane has an doctors appointment today so we can see if the infection and fluid is out of his ears. My guess is no, seeing as how he walked (stumbled) straight into a wall last night, fell off the couch, and hit the door jam on the way into the bathroom. Either that or he's sneaking mommy and daddy's special grape juice.

Auction for Layla Grace

Do you know about Sweet Pea Central?? Well you should. It's run by an incredibly talented woman who makes the most adorable childrens' hair clips and head bands you've ever seen.

Tell me you don't have clothes that would match perfectly with any of those clips! Not to mention they are a steal of a price. Only $2.50 for matching clips. Do you know how much you would pay for those at a children's store? Well, I'll tell you. $12.50-$15.00. How do I know? Because before I came across her store, I was the idiot buying the clips for that much. Lily owns several clips from Sweet Pea Central. They are well made, durable and easy to slip in an unsuspecting child's hair.

Evyn (her gorgeous daughter is pictured above), who makes all the merchandise and owns the store, has graciously decided to auction off a custom made hat in memoriam of Layla Grace. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to Layla Grace's medical bill fund, set up by her parents.

This is the adorable hat to be auctioned off. Now, if you don't have a little girl or a child who will wear hats, don't worry! You can easily donate this cap to a friend who would love it or to a local children's cancer hospital.

To participate in this auction that starts 8:00 pm EST, Friday, March 12, 2010 and lasts until 8:00 pm EDT, Monday, March 15, 2010

If you would like to donate to Layla Grace's family directly
If you don't know Layla's story, Click Here

Her funeral will be held Saturday March 13th at 10:30am
at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 5901 North Fry Road, Katy, TX 77449-1807

Thanks for helping out!

Playing at Compass

Today we went up to Compass Christian Church, which is where Zane and Lily will be attending preschool twice a week in the fall. They have a really great program and are not the type of church that brainwashes kids from an early age (ie. gays and democrats are EVIIIIL), so it's a perfect fit for us seeing as it's also right down the street. In addition to a good children's program, they also have a really fun play place. They have this (above) called the cube which is like a McDonald's playground on steroids, The Garage...which is a big room full of cars and balls, an outdoor typical playground, and finally A Town Center which are beautiful functional playhouses.
I like the slide

...and I'd like you to move. Now.

The playhouses

I'll take a steak, medium rare, potatoes and an ice cream.

Lily! Did you kill that "colors" test!!
No...I failed.

Can someone teach me how to sit in a chair?

The church of holy rollin' Zane is now open

LILY!!
What? Jesus likes Chopsticks!

My favorite part of this video is at 0:47 seconds when Zane plays so hard, and then after a pause, comes back with a softer piece
