Saturday Grillin'

Thank you to Dom, Michelle and Emma for having us over to their house on a blistering hot Saturday evening. Mommys and Daddys had a great time and so did all the kiddos. We're so happy you guys moved closer!
(thank you Michelle for sharing your pictures!)

This is why....

1. Pediatrician's offices should serve liquor
2. Why I hate taking them to the doctor
3. Why I hate going alone
4. Why the nurses draw straws in the hallway when they see us coming
5. Why my pediatrician does all her history and notes in the hallway
6. Why it took three adults to restrain one child to get a throat swab

Mind you this was taken right as we had gotten into our exam room. Not a soul had even touched them yet. Imagine the fun when the actual nurse walks in to take the vitals. Oh ya.

...and there's your dose of birth control for the day

Do what now?

Can you understand her?!? Even I have trouble!

Coxsackie...I hate you.

Diagnosis: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. (not to be confused with Hoof & Mouth disease from animals). It's a viral infection that causes ulcerations on the Hands, feet and mouth. And also in the diaper region. But as Aunt Anne put it, "Hand, Foot, Mouth & Genital" Disease just isn't as catchy.

The most likely got it at Mothers Day Out, thanks to someone not washing their hands after changing a dirty diaper. Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks.

Poor babies have bad ones in their throats (they aren't eating much as you can assume) and Zane has it bad in his diaper region. YAY for childhood viruses!

Here's a pic of the little jerk:

The blisters really haven't started on his feet but you can see the little red punctate marks that are beginning to show up.

Yep.

Kids are sick again. Going to the doctor this afternoon, I'm taking bets on the diagnosis!!

Random videos from this morning

Just cleaning out my camera

Attempting to get Lily to speak Spanish

Free for all kids dancing to Polka....

Grapevine Street Festival

This morning we met Miss Katie and Landon out at the Grapevine Festival. They have a huge Kid Zone and is free (until 5pm today). The kids had a good time, well, a moderately good time. They probably would have had more fun if mom was willing to pay the $3.00 EACH it costs to go on the little kiddie rides. But naaaaaaaa.

Zane enjoyed taking hold of the big shovel to move the sand around

"Oh, hey there, I think I ate your cousin last night."

I Love ANIMALS!!!!

I don't know why Lily hated the petting zoo....

Oh...ya...that's probably why.

Last day of school

Lily goes to Mother's day out from 9-2 on Wednesdays and Thursdays and Zane just goes on Wednesdays. This allows mom to get some stuff done (grocery shopping, landscaping, mental health exercises) without the kids on Wednesdays and allows me to take Zane to speech therapy on Thursdays.
Ok, if you don't know by now, Lily doesn't exactly enjoy being away from me, nor does she really like other people around her. It's just her nature and she's been that way since the day she was born. Ask ANYONE who has been around her from 1 month to present. She just takes a while to warm up.

Today was the last day of school for the kids. The nice teachers put together a little photo album of pictures of the kids for us. It was very sweet of them to do but I when I looked at Lily's I didn't know whether to cry or laugh my butt off.

When I drop Lily (and Zane for that matter) off in the morning, it's never very pleasant. Screaming/crying all that fun stuff that kids do to make mama feel terrible. When I pick them up, I'm always given some comment like "they did..um..."ok" today".

Below are a few pictures from the photobook. I had to take pictures of the pictures because my scanner is not hooked up.

Try not to laugh as loud as I did.

Notice Lily in the background

Wow, sure seems like everyone's having fun...except....

Complete with runny snot crying nose

Zane is a big boy people. Zane and Lily are the youngest kids in their class, by 3 months. The other boys in this picture are almost 2 and a half.

The teacher didn't know that obviously Lily does not like to get dirty...ever

Their teacher always said (synchronized) nap time was their favorite part of the day :) (I love it when my twins do twin-things, it makes my heart warm)

No nap Zoo day

Wow, I feel loved. Thank you all who have written or called wondering what in the world is going on with me. I haven't updated the blog in over a week! That's a long time in my world.

Well, there are a variety of reasons. Me being sick (off the lettuce) took a really hard toll on me. It wiped me out. I haven't been that ill in a long time. I still feel weak from the whole ordeal.

Also, Z&L are about to turn 2 (well in a month anyway). I need to plan stuff.

In addition...ya, that silly life stuff just gets in the way. My house was a wreck from not doing anything for two weeks while I begged the bacterium to leave my body. Laundry piled up, floors got sticky, you know.

Today was a first in our household.

There have been days when Lily refuses to take a nap. There have been days when Zane refuses to take a nap. Never have both refused to take a nap on the same day. Something was in the air. So, to make the best of it, I grabbed the pair and we went to the zoo.

The zoo is always packed in the mornings, but because they get up from their naps so late, it's our only time to go. BUT, today we got to go in the afternoon. IT WAS GREAT! As we were coming in around 2:30, everyone else was leaving. Perfect!

Lily: 'ane, look, those guys pick bugs off each other and eat them. That's how they take a bath.
Zane:...that's just gross man.

Lily: OOOO look at that monkey!
Zane: Ya, it's butt looks like Lily's, hahahaha

Lily: MAMA, DADA.... BROTHER? BROTHER? BROTHER!?! BROTHER? BROTHER?! BROTHER!!!!!???!!!!!
(* Lily believes that all groups come in families of four. Just like ours. If there is not a mama, a daddy, a brother and a Lily she does not acccept and will question the whereabouts of the missing member...ad nauseum .)

Hey there, I can breathe through my nose now...and I like carousels

Lily: 'ane! that's a Komodo dragon. It has the deadliest bite in the world, but it's not poisonous, it just has tons of bacteria in it's mouth and that's what will kill you...ewww.

Lily: And that's a fish. They're not as poisonous or cool.

Lily: 'ane! You better listen to mama!

...and on that note. I'm tired. I will try to keep the blog more updated this week. Thank you for sticking with me this past week!!
(ya, tired.)

Lily: Cutest Parasite Ever

A practical mom's favorite things

A lot of these type of "favorite things" lists that I've seen out there are nice and all...but they have one problem. They're not completely practical. Their favorite soap is some random fully organic probiotic wipe that can only be found and a specialty store 50 miles away. So, for my people out there, here is a list of some of my favorite things. Oh, just to throw in there, I'm not getting paid by these people or anything, which would be great, but alas no, my advice is unbiased.

Favorite TV distraction. The Wiggles.
Ok, I love the Wiggles. I know they aren't as "cool" as Yo Gabba Gabba but I think they're fantastic. Men who all met while going to college for Child Development formed a band aimed at helping children. If you pay attention to their songs and movements, they all have basis behind them. Such as "moving like an emu". The motion for the song requires the child to cross their arm in front of their body to the other side and make a half circle. For a child, crossing your arm in front of your body to the other side is very difficult. Most arm movement will stop in the midsection. It's called crossing the midplane of the body. Go on...see if your under 3 year old can make a full circle with their arms, most likely they will stop at the midplane, making a kind of crooked half circle. The Wiggles teach them these things.
Favorite bedroom item. The Conair White Noise machine.
The only con is that the clock light is too bright. I put black electrical tape over it. This guy is super loud and has multiple settings to keep everyday noises (and doorbells!) from waking the kids up. The second picture is the other kind they sell that is smaller and has no clock...yet is more expensive? Same thing though.

Favorite coffee/snack spot. Starbucks.
If you need a pick me up during the day, or are on your way to the park and don't want to pack a whole bunch of stuff, you can drive through to get your coffee and grab a Child snack pack. These snack packs have great food items in them. All practical...all stuff the kids will eat.

Favorite weekend non-trip trip. Petsmart.
Don't want to spend money? Need to take the kids out of the house and kill an hour? Heading to Petsmart on Saturdays is great. There are tons of puppies, kitties and fishies to entertain them and most likely the dogs are barking so loud that if the kids throw a tantrum, no one will notice or hear them. You can go during the week too and just look at the fish or see if there are any dogs in the pet play area.

Favorite cleaning product. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
The thing is a miracle. One swipe and it takes crayon or marker off of anything. ANYTHING. You don't even need to use soap, just plain water. It also helps in getting stuck on food off of your table or chairs. This is a marvelous invention. I always have two packs in the house.

Favorite Microwave Meal. Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers.
By far the best tasting and easiest meal out there. It's pretty decent calorie/fat wise too. Just throw it in the microwave for 5 minutes and you've got lunch or dinner (when daddy's out of town).
Favorite Fancy Microwave Meal: Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake.
This thing is delicious but it's expensive as far as meals go. Polenta, plantains, black beans, pumpkin seeds, root veggies in a chipotle sauce. So good. But not easy on the stomach. Just a warning.

Favorite Fast Food. Chick-Fil-A.
Chick-Fil-A has got McDonalds beat hands down. Not only is their food healthier (well depends what you substitute for what ie fries vs fruit cup) but the staff is geared towards mom and kids. They give you plastic sticky placemats, come around to refill your drink, deliver your food to you and sometimes will give the kids free samples of yogurt parfaits and whatnot. Their playground area is definitely for kids over 2 (most of the time) but there are a few out there that have outdoor playareas with stuff for small kids to do. Zane and Lily are the exception because they can scale the play structures with ease, but then again, they're monkeys.

Favorite bath product. Johnson and Johnson bedtime bath.
When the kids were newborns I hated this stuff and would not use it. The lavender smell was way too much for their systems and I swear kept them awake. I vowed never to use it. Then one day we ran out of the perfume free soap and I dug around in the cabinet and found bottles and bottles of this stuff. The kids were older (12 months) so I said, oh well, they're not all over-stimulation crazy now.
I started using it and I swear it really does help them sleep. And it makes them smell pretty and is way cheaper than all the fancy baby soaps out there.

And that is a list of some of my favorite practical things. There will be more later, but this is all I could come up with on a whim.

Happy Mothers Day!

I hope all the moms, future moms and want to be moms out there had a great mother's day.

My mommy is very special to me because she:
1. Can outlast me
2. Can out exercise me
3. Can out run me
4. Can out drink me
5. Can out sass me
6. Can out work me
7. She's prettier than me
8. She's tougher than me
9. She's stronger than me
10. She can throw together food like no one's business

Texas is too big of a state and I'm grateful for her not disowning me for moving all over the place all the time. I love you mommy and I hope you had a fabulous day!

Bathroom Facelift

Houses are like people. If they have good bone structure, you can make them look nice. Our house had excellent bone structure, it just....well...was lived in by a woman who thought flowers and burgundy and hunter green were awesome ways to decorate. So we knew we'd have to spend a little money giving our house a makeover.
Here's the master bath.

Good God it looks like flowers threw up in here

ahhh...much more serene.

Can I eats em flowers?

Mommy is sick.

Guess what mama ate. Guess what is on the recall list for E.Coli contamination. The recall says not in Texas though, but you could have fooled me. I'm sick as a dog. A dog who swallowed a whole bunch of evil bacteria...

Playing with Miss Curls

While the kids were in school today, I headed north to play with Miss Emma. Her mommy and daddy have just moved into a new house (yay closer to us!) and mommy needed a little toddler-less unpacking time. We had a great time at the park and also Chick-Fil-A. Can't wait to see more of this adorable girl.

Shhhhh don't tell Lily we're having this much fun!

Still happy!

I mean really...I'm just in complete shock. You guys have to understand what I've been living with for the past two years. He's a different child!!!!!

Politely playing with his sister. I expected the interest in the book to turn into an all out war for it (like normal). Nope, he just moved on to something else.

I heard silence in the house and this is where I found Zane. Nicely playing by himself in his room with his toys. Never. Happened. Before surgery.

This is what my typical day was like for TWO YEARS

Holy Onions Batman

I'm beat. Apparently the previous owners of this house liked the "wild" look for their gardens. I prefer the neat and tidy, things in a row type of garden. It is taking me quite a while to clean up the place.

Wild abandon here on the side of the house

oh ya...pulled out of ONE flower bed. And this was only half of the bed

Wrong vase, flowers droopy but they smell so nice

Hello Peony... my favorite flower
