Coxsackie...I hate you.

Diagnosis: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. (not to be confused with Hoof & Mouth disease from animals). It's a viral infection that causes ulcerations on the Hands, feet and mouth. And also in the diaper region. But as Aunt Anne put it, "Hand, Foot, Mouth & Genital" Disease just isn't as catchy.

The most likely got it at Mothers Day Out, thanks to someone not washing their hands after changing a dirty diaper. Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks.

Poor babies have bad ones in their throats (they aren't eating much as you can assume) and Zane has it bad in his diaper region. YAY for childhood viruses!

Here's a pic of the little jerk:

The blisters really haven't started on his feet but you can see the little red punctate marks that are beginning to show up.

What's the treatment, and how long does it last? I am so sorry. Keep the faith!

just keep them comfortable with Tylenol and Motrin until it passes. Also can do a 1:1 mixture of benedryl and maalox for them to swallow and help alleviate the throat pain. They should be all better in a couple of days, as long as it doesn't get too bad, then it may be up to 10 days, but they rarely get bad doses of stuff

Julia had this...didn't have many on the hand and foot and none on the diaper region, but did have it in the mouth :( Sucks I know!

This is what they prescribed for Michelle & Rob when they were little and had this very same icky thing...1 TBSP Maalox + the correct dosage of liquid Benadryl - they're to swish the combo in their mouth and swallow. It deadens the pain, helps counteract the acid and the benadryl helps them sleep. Michelle uses it today when she get mouth cankers. It really works. Good luck.

for some reason my children are weird and benedryl hypes them up and they are up all night. I haven't used it yet...everytime I give Lily benedryl I know I have a weeks worth of "all nighters" on my hand.
